John (Ioannis) K. Kaldellis: PhD Mechanical Engineer NTUA and Business Administration Diploma University of Piraeus. Professor at Mechanical Engineering Dept, University of West Attica, Director of the Soft Energy Applications & Environmental Protection Lab (1993-…) and Scientific Director of MSc in Energy Systems (collaboration with Heriot-Watt University) (2006-2025) and Director of MSc in Energy and Environmental Investments/Developments (2014-…). In September 2019, he was elected as Vice-Rector of University of West Attica, responsible for Research and Lifelong Education (2019-2023). During the last years, he serves as Expert for DG-REGIO of EC for GReco-Islands Initiative.
His research interests include Feasibility Analysis of Energy sector applications and projects, Technological progress in Wind, Hydro and Solar energy market, with special emphasis on Hybrid Energy systems, Energy Storage issues, Sustainable Mobility, Social Attitude towards Renewable Energy applications and Environmental Technology-Air Pollution. He is Scientific Responsible for many research projects, including the well-recognized TILOS-Horizon 2020.
He has published six books concerning Renewable Energy Applications (4) and Protection of the Environment (2). He is the Editor of the book entitled “Stand-alone and hybrid wind energy systems: Technology, energy storage and applications” and the Editor of the “Wind Energy” Volume of the Comprehensive Renewable Energy Encyclopaedia by Elsevier (1st/2012 and 2nd/2022 edition). He has served for almost 15 years (2010-2024) as Associate/Subject Editor of the Renewable Energy International Journal (IF=9+), member of the Editorial Board of several International Journals (Applied Energy (IF=12+), Sustainability (IF=3.5), etc.) and reviewer in more than 60 International Journals in the Energy and Environment Sector. Currently he serves as Associate Editor for the International Journal of Low Carbon Technologies.
He is the author of more than 220 scientific papers in peer reviewed Journals/chapters in Scientific Publications and more than 600 papers in Scientific Conferences and has more than 10000 citations in his research work (Scopus h-index=54). According to the 2020/2024 Jeroen Baas (Elsevier, B.V.), Kevin Boyack (SciTech Strategies, USA) & John P.A. Ioannidis (Stanford) annual (2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024) list he belongs to the top 1%₀ of most cited researchers and ranks (24044) amongst the world’s top 200 researchers in the Energy Sector.
